Overview I. Ways of using your phone while driving II. The Benefits I. The next slide contains reasons and explanation of the benefits III. Suggestions  Conclusion

Thesis  While using your phone while driving may help you with time management, they are not safe. In fact, if they are not in use they can save many lives, gives you more focus on your driving, and it can save you money.  According to Should US ban cellphone use, Ray Lahood, who is the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, has decided to end distractions while driving his top priority.  Information: I remember in Driver’s Ed, the dangerous level of texting and driving is the same as drinking and driving.

What are ways people text and drive?  People text and drive in may ways. They look down on their phone and look up now and then while texting. They put the phone on top of their steering wheel so they can “multitask” (as in look at the phone and the road at the same time). They try to text when there is a red light or at a stop sign.

Phone calls  There are also phone calls which is a different story. Phone calls may look like it’s safer because you can look at the road while on the phone. However, it is still a distraction and will not help you focus on the road!

The Benefits  You can avoid getting into accidents  It can help you focus on your driving  It can help you not get in trouble with officers "Should US ban cellphone use by drivers? - CSMonitor.com." The Christian Science Monitor - CSMonitor.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 1 Oct

Why ban it?  You are less likely to get into to accidents According to Richard Read, the author of Should US ban cellphone use, if you use your phone while driving you are increasing your chance of getting into an accident by 4 times. It can save your life AND other’s lives as well  It can help you focus Nothing more is important then keeping your two eyes on the road  It can help you to save some money Getting a ticket nowadays is not cheap Help reduce your phone bill If an accident happens, if they know you were texting and driving, you will get sued and you will have to pay for fixing yours and their car if insurance can not afford both.

What do other’s think? use-in-cars-be-banned

Why do people think this is unfair?  If there is an emergency text or call, you will need to respond.  If phone usage is banned then eating, drinking, and etc… should be banned also.  Job requires to be on a cellular device to keep up with my and clients. "Should all mobile phone use in cars be banned? – Debate.org." Debate Online | Social Networking Site for Debating | Debate.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 1 Oct

Why do people think this is unfair? Cont.  If it’s unfair instead of banning it, there are other ways to use it “safely” such as bluetooth/hand-free technology. (Cars) Richard Read, the author of Should US ban cellphone use, has stated that even if people do not physically put their phone against their ears, it is still a distraction

Suggestions  If it’s an emergency call/text, pull over immediately to an empty lot or any safe area and use the phone  If you see your friend using it, take it from them and hold onto it.

Conclusion  Although there are some disadvantages of banning your phone while driving, the biggest advantage is that it will keep you alive.  “The conversation is the distraction, not the device”
