How to look at problems and opportunities: the status analysis SUMP Technical Training Workshop Cologne, Germany November 2011
SUMP status analysis Introduction A thorough status analysis of the mobility situation is crucial in helping to define appropriate policies and to provide the necessary baseline against which progress can be measured The status analysis provides also key inputs for modelling tools
SUMP status analysis Introduction We need to look properly at problems and opportunities of the mobility system We focus on transport and mobility but we have to look at the city as a whole Two main tasks: collection of data and analysis
SUMP status analysis Data collection process Analyse key planning documents, procedures and policies Identify and select all available data (qualittative and quantitative) and asses their quality Retrieve data, synthesise their content and collect additional data to fill gaps Be sure you have a minimum set of data (you have to set up measurable targets)
SUMP status analysis Status analysis Select suitable indicators Identify possible expected and unexpected events (e.g. planned shoppign malls or shortage of fossil fuels) Together with key stakeholders, prepare a baseline analysis: identify and prioritise key problems, select opportunities
