Sport The story behind…

Sport Article 165 TFUE The Union shall contribute to the promotion of European sporting issues, while taking account of the specific nature of sport, its structures based on voluntary activity and its social and educational function. Union action shall be aimed at (…) developing the European dimension in sport, by promoting fairness and openness in sporting competitions and cooperation between bodies responsible for sports, and by protecting the physical and moral integrity of sportsmen and sportswomen, especially the youngest sportsmen and sportswomen.

Sport EU Programmes EU Programmes exist in order to help implement EU policies Sport is partly mainstreamed in existing policies/programmes: regional, social, health, education, youth But some parts of EU sport policy cannot be supported through existing programmes because of specificity of sport, stakeholders in sport, sport as a relatively "unknown" sector Hence: Preparatory actions in sport and the proposal for a Sport Chapter of Erasmus for All

Sport Partnership in sport Preparatory Actions 2013 – Call for Proposals Mobility arrangements in sport Strengthening of good governance and dual careers in sport through support for the mobility of volunteers, coaches, managers and staff of non-profit sport organisations. Injury prevention and safety and security arrangements Protecting athletes, especially the youngest, from health and safety hazards by improving training and competition conditions. Traditional games Promoting traditional European sports and games

Sport Eligible organisations: To be eligible, the applicant: must be a public body or a not-for-profit organisation; have a legal status; have their registered head office in one of the Member States of the European Union. Natural persons are not eligible.

Sport Eligible costs Eligible costs are costs actually incurred by the beneficiary, which meet the following criteria: - they are incurred during the duration of the action/project as specified in the grant agreement, - they are connected with the subject of the agreement and they are indicated in the estimated overall budget of the action/project - they are necessary for the implementation of the action/project - they are identifiable and verifiable, - they comply with the requirements of applicable tax and social legislation; - they are reasonable, justified, and comply with the requirements of sound financial management, in particular regarding economy and efficiency

Sport What next?

Sport Erasmus for All: Sport chapter Article 12: Activities The objectives of cooperation in Sport shall be pursued through the following transnational activities: - support to transnational collaborative projects; - support to non-commercial European sport events involving several European countries; - support the strengthening of the evidence base for policy making; - support to capacity building of sport organisations; - dialogue with relevant European stakeholders. Council proposes to delete (b) and (d).

Sport Budget for the Sport Chapter Based on the results of the evaluation of the Preparatory Actions, the Commission proposes an average annual budget of around € 34 million for sport. Total proposed amount over 7 years: € 238 million Reasonable budget that will allow us to concentrate on those actions that have a clear EU added value and address problems and issues that cannot be dealt with effectively at national level.
