V6T 1Z2 The National Unification Advisory Council of Korea Vancouver Canada Chapter (NUAC) The National Unification Advisory Council of Korea Vancouver Canada Chapter (NUAC) The NUAC serves as an advisory council to the president of the Republic of Korea on the unification of the two Koreas. The NUAC is a worldwide organization of Korean people within and outside of the Republic of Korea. There are 23 chapters worldwide, representing 68 countries outside of Korea, including the U.S. and Europe. A mandate of the Vancouver Canada Chapter, composed of Korean-Canadian members, is to increase awareness among Canadians about the issues related to the unification of Korea. In 2004, the Vancouver chapter received one of only two special awards of recognition from President Roh Moo Hyun of the Republic of Korea for its outstanding leadership and work Cypress St. Vancouver B.C. Professor Han S. Park The University Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Center for the Study of Global Issues at the University of Georgia, Professor Park has published extensively in the areas of East Asian politics, Political Development and globalization. He was instrumental in former President Jimmy Carter’s visit to North Korea in 1994, which may have averted a major military conflict in Korea. He has visited North Korea nearly 40 times and invited North Korean policy makers to the United States for an array of venues for peacemaking. He has appeared regularly on CNN, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, ABC’s World News with Peter Jennings, and ABC’s Nightline, and serves as a consultant/analyst for ABC News. His remarks have widealy been cited by major media including The New York Times, USA Today, and numerous major papers in Japan, Korea, and Europe. Professor Kyung-Ae. Park Korea Foundation Chair of the Institute of Asian Research at University of British Columbia. Previously, she was a professor in the Department of Political Science at Mercer University, Franklin and Marshall College, and the University of British Columbia. She served as President of the Association of Korean Political Studies in North America. She is the author, co-author, or co-editor of many scholarly publications on issues of North and South Korean politics, foreign relations, and gender and development. As an expert analyst, she has actively participated in the policy dialogues on Korean politics among Korean and North American experts and policy makers. Since 1995, she has made several trips to Pyongyang and hosted North Korean delegation visits to Canada, playing a key role in promoting Track-II exchanges and diplomacy between Canada and North Korea.
