VET SITUATION IN LITHUANIA

SUBORDINATION OF THE FORMAL VET INSTITUTIONS Vocational training institutions in Lithuania are subordinated by the Ministry of Education. But vocational training institutions are closely related to the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, to the Employers institutions, to the Business self- government institutions, to the institutions, who are representing the interests of employee.

STAGES OF THE VET SHOOLS IN LITHUANIA FIRST STAGE. This stage is designed for pupils, who are over 14 years old and who have not finished lower secondary education and wish to acquire basic general education and to obtain basic school certificate. Duration of the program – 2 or 3 years. After finishing school student gets a certificate of qualification and a certificate of basic school.

STAGES OF THE VET SHOOLS IN LITHUANIA SECOND STAGE. This stage is designed for pupils, who has graduated basic school and wish to obtain only vocational qualification. Duration of the program – 2 years. After finishing school student gets a certificate of vocational training.

STAGES OF THE VET SHOOLS IN LITHUANIA THIRD STAGE. This stage is designed for pupils, who has graduated basic school and wish to obtain vocational qualification and general education. Duration of the program – 3 years. After finishing school student gets a certificate of vocational training and certificate of secondary school.

STAGES OF THE VET SHOOLS IN LITHUANIA FOURTH STAGE. This stage is designed for pupils, who has graduated secondary school and wish to obtain only vocational qualification. Duration of the program – 1 or 2 years (it depends on the complication of the profession). After finishing school student gets a certificate of qualification.

DESCRIPTION OF FORMAL EDUCATION Formal education - it is limited time, subjects and place. Particular result and knowledge is emphasized. Oficially recognized documet is given after graduating school.

INSTITUTIONS, THAT ISSUES THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR FORMAL EDUCATION Since the 2 nd of September, 2009 the Ministry of Education and other institutions, who are subordinated by this ministry, are dealing on all business, which are related to qualifications.

AWARDING QUALIFICATIONS OF FORMAL EDUCATION FIRST STAGE (the same as ISCED 2) Student gets a certificate of qualification (ISCED 2C) SECOND STAGE (the same as ISCED 3) Student gets a certificate of vocational training (ISCED 3C) THIRD STAGE (the same as ISCED 3) Student gets a certificate of vocational training (ISCED 3B) FOURTH STAGE (the same as ISCED 4) Student gets a certificate of vocational training (ISCED 4)

DESCRIPTION OF NON-FORMAL EDUCATION Non-formal education – usually it isnt implemented by formal institutions of education. Non- formal education is polarized to practical skills and personal development.

NON-FORMAL VET To prepare and realize non-formal education are able all institutions of non- formal education in Lithuania. Institutions of secondary education, vocational training, higher education, juridical or natural persons and other institutions, who are having units for non-formal education can realize non-formal education as well. But this is invalid for onetime events of non-formal education.

AWARDING QUALIFICATIONS OF NON-FORMAL EDUCATION Some institutions of non-formal education are giving special certificates to persons. Some of given certificates arent officially available.

DESCRIPTION OF INFORMAL EDUCATION In-formal education (self-education) – the main aim is to ensure facilities to person for constantly learning using surrounding space of information (libralies, media, Internet, museums) and experience which is absorbed from others. It is natural education, which is going on every day by itself.

AWARDING QUALIFICATIONS OF INFORMAL EDUCATION There are no awarding qualifications for informal education, because its the persons self-education in his real life all the time every day.
