Welcome to Math Modeling Your parent/guardian will need to sign a receipt of these pages and return the required forms. Instructor: Laura Craft, JD Portable 4A Web site: At the McNeil page go to faculty and next to my name is a computer picture, click on it. Messages, assignments, etc. can be found there as well as a web site for Algebra help. I consider school your JOB. I expect you to behave as you would on the job as to dress, manners, work ethic, attendance, etc. I owned my own company for over 20 years. I know what the job atmosphere is. Classroom supplies – yes, they are mandatory 1 inch three ring notebook to be left in class ---not negotiable. ( I will furnish these. They belong to me, do not write on them or destroy them or take them home. ) You will need paper for your binder. No, I don’t furnish it. I do provide graph paper. Something to write with. I DO NOT FURNISH OR LOAN PENCILS OR PENS. No exceptions. I suggest a pencil case with pencils in your binder. Yes. You may use pen. If I give an assignment that REQUIRES pencil, I will hand them out. (scantrons) I do not furnish tissue. Bring your own. Statement of Purpose: 1. To enter a four year college you must pass Algebra II. So this class will either be your third math credit for the minimum high school graduation plan or a bridge to help you in Algebra II. If you do not pass this class it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will pass Algebra II. If this is your required third Math, you need to pass it or you will not walk the stage. 2. If you do not need this class and are taking it for an easy “A”, go see a counselor and drop the class. No one person has ever successfully pulled this off. This class that takes A LOT OF WORK!!!!! 3. Class will consist of group work experiments and projects, homework, quizzes and exams. Papers with no name or no class period will not be graded. Exams and projects will count 75% of your grade. Dailey work (quizzes, etc) will count 25%. Projects and exams will count differently each six weeks depending on length, complexity and number of projects and exams. The binder is to keep completed and future work in. I will tell you if you need to keep an assignment. Part of your midterm and final grade will be the completeness of your binder. See my webpage for my grading policy.

Classroom rules: 1 restroom pass per six weeks. If you have a medical condition, I must have a note from the school nurse. If you do not use your pass, you may trade it for a 100 in place of your lowest daily grade. If you have an “emergency”, just go but you will need to discuss it with the school nurse or an administrator. Tardy means “not in classroom attending to warm up or other work when bell rings”. “Homework” will not be collected unless I tell you. I give quizzes on the homework. That will tell me if you comprehend the topic. Projects must be done in order to pass this class. See Grading Policy. I reserve the right to assign detention and make administration referrals for failure to do projects. You will not pass the class if you do not do projects. When I am speaking, you are not. When a classmate is called on, you will allow them to speak and remain silent. When we are doing group work, you will be able to converse as long as you are working on the project. Because of the size of the classes, you need to talk in low tones to allow everyone to hear their teams or partners. Do not throw ANYTHING in my classroom…not paper wads, or pencils…NOTHING!!!!!!!! Everyone participates in class work. Dress code will be enforced. No eating in class. Drinks are allowed as long as they are legal. They must be in no spill containers. No trash, etc. on the floor. The janitor is not your personal servant. Even if you did not put it there, pick it up and dispose of it properly (after class..not during). No makeup, combs, brushes, perfume, aftershave, mirrors, etc. non assigned books, homework for other classes, drawings, etc, I will take them and only your parent/guardian can get them back. Exceptions: CHAP STICK AND UNSCENTED HAND LOTION. ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVISES. They will be taken and given to the office. I do not guarantee they will make it by the end of the day. Any other rules as I should make from time to time.
