Muslim Youth and the Importance of Seeking Knowledge “You might be young, but life is short. How are you spending your time?” 2006 JIAR Girl’s Summer Youth Camp

What is meant by Seeking Knowledge?

The absolute sense of knowledge! Quran & Sunnah Quran & Sunnah

What is Our Purpose in Life? Allah (swt) tells us in the Quran in the interpretation of the meaning: “I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.” (Quran, 51:56)

Which comes first, knowledge or faith?

The Prophet said: “Near the establishment of the Hour, there will be the days of Al-Harj (i.e., killing), and the religious knowledge will be taken away (vanish i.e. by the death of Religious scholars) and general ignorance will spread.” (Bukhari) Ignorance Knowledge

The Prophet said: “The first thing the people will be accountable for on the Day of Judgment is prayer” (Ahmad and Abu Dawood)

Is the one who has knowledge of Islam equal to the one who does not and why?

Allah (saw) tells us in the Quran in the interpretation of the meaning: “Say: 'Are those who know equal to those who know not?' It is only men of understanding who will remember (that is get a lesson from Allah's signs).” (Quran, 39:9) "Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad) from your Lord is the truth be like him who is blind? But it is only the men of understanding that pay heed.” (Quran, 13:19)

Seeking knowledge of the religion helps achieve Taqwa (fear) of Allah and increases Iman. Allah says, in the interpretation of the meaning: “It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah.” (Quran, 35:28) Seeking knowledge of the religion helps achieve Taqwa (fear) of Allah and increases Iman. Allah says, in the interpretation of the meaning: “It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah.” (Quran, 35:28)

Time Do we take advantage of our time by seeking knowledge or do we spend our time with things that divert us away from learning about our religion? –Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet said: “There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good.” (Bukhari)

Allah (swt) says in the interpretation of the meaning: –“By Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss. Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience” (Quran, 103:1-3) Allah (swt) says in the interpretation of the meaning: –“By Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss. Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience” (Quran, 103:1-3)
