Rhyme  The repetition of sounds at the ends of words Example… “You hear my voice, you hear that sound Like thunder gonna shake the ground” Like thunder gonna shake the ground” -Katy Perry

Rhythm  The beat created by the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables. Example…Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!

Repetition  The use of any element of language – a sound, word, phrase or sentence – more than once Example… Because I’m happy. Clap along if your feel like happiness is the truth. Because I’m happy. Clap along if you know what happiness is to you. happiness is to you. -Pharrell Williams

Onomatopoeia  The use of words that imitate sounds Example…crashbanghiss

Alliteration  The repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of the words. Example… lovely, lonely, lights lovely, lonely, lights

Metaphors  Describe one thing as if it were something else. Example… “Shot me out of the sky You’re my kryptonite” You’re my kryptonite” -One Direction

Simile  Use like or as to compare two unlike things and show similarities between the two. Example… “I love you like a love song baby” -Selena Gomez

Personification  Gives human qualities to something that is non-human Example… The ocean crashed angrily during the storm. The ocean crashed angrily during the storm.
