APNIC Is Now Stable APNIC has reached a level of stability that allows it the luxury of relocation –APNIC would not have been possible without support by JPNIC, WIDE, IIJ, KRNIC, and the rest of the AP Internet community. Even given the instability in the region’s economies, APNIC is structurally and economically sound and can adjust to the membership’s needs
APNIC’s Structure I have attempted to make APNIC –Open -- anyone can become an APNIC member –Transparent -- no hidden agendas or secret societies –Independent -- no biases or non-business dependencies Given APNIC’s international nature, this seemed the most appropriate course of action –Particularly given the diversity of the region The membership can change this if they desire
My Replacement The APNIC Executive Council has decided to contact a professional executive search firm to find the new Director General of APNIC –It is expected, the candidates for the new DG position will be submitted to the EC within 8 weeks Initial interview will be done by the current DG, a short list will be provided to the EC within two weeks following the interviews
Personal Note I am deeply indebted to Dr. Jun Murai, the members of the old apnic-staff mailing list, and the AP Region Internet community for providing me the opportunity to help build APNIC –I hope my contributions were of value My only caution is for the APNIC community to be wary of unnecessary politics –APNIC should be a service organization, not a political battleground
In Conclusion So Long and Thanks for All the Fish -- Douglas Adams
