Obesity, Smoking and Alcohol Projections Moray Tracey Gervaise Health and Wellbeing Lead, Moray. John Campbell Services Manager. Amanda Ware Research Information Officer. Moray Alcohol and Drug Partnership.

Projections are not a reliable guide to the future. Their core assumption – that the past is a guide to the future – is invariably wrong to a greater or lesser extent. But they do illustrate the scale of change required if aspirations are to become reality. Source: ScotPHO Smoking Prevalence Trends for Scotland Report 2010

Plans MADP Delivery Plan MADP Scottish Government Report MADP Strategy Community Safety Strategy

Annual Budget MADP Budget as well as contributions from NHSG, TMC, and Police Scotland The move towards integration of Health and Social care and joint budgets could impact on the resources available to tackle alcohol issues It can be challenging to clarify the budget used to improve health and well being of the population when looking at the amount spent on alcohol alone

Annual Budget contd. In NHS Grampian, activity is underway to demonstrate it’s commitment to the development of a CPP Prevention Plan for each of the 3 CPP’s and to demonstrate an increasing shift towards prevention from mainstream allocations

Assets Primary Assets MADP Services MCHSCP Public Health Team (including Health Point, Dr Grays Hospital and the MIB) Police Scotland (Operation Avon and School Liaison Officers) Secondary Assets Education and Children and Families Social Care Services

What will MADP Services do to contribute to the target? The MADP Service Redesign There will be increased support to parents with children or who are pregnant; providing early involvement There will be increase focus accompanied by resources to ensure there is early involvement where a pregnant female is abusing alcohol; supporting their involvement with antenatal, addiction and family services

What will MADP Services do to contribute to the target? Ensure that the early intervention agenda is integrated into the Early Years and Young People Subgroup and work plan MADP Research and Information Officer and Management and Performance subgroup will continue to monitor Alcohol Related Hospital Admissions year on year

What will Services do to contribute to the target? Reinforce the message that alcohol is potentially dangerous if consumed above the recommended drinking limits Co-ordination of consistent alcohol awareness messages through effectively designed communications to all ages and population groups Work with Elected Members and Community Planning Board Members to increase ownership of the reduction in alcohol dependence in Moray and to act as senior advocates and champions in key service committees and strategy and policy development on a local and national level

What will Services do to contribute to the target? That the Community Planning Board give consideration to review the current governance and accountability systems and infrastructure in relation to the: Local Licensing Board Local Licensing Forum Licensing Community With an aim to ensure that it is appropriate for Community Planning Partners Restrict the illicit sale of alcohol to those under 18 years

Confidence Rating Confidence Rating of 1: Further action needs to be identified as a matter of priority A reduction of 51.6% is an ambitious target, which will require additional resources and further actions to be identified as a matter of priority
