Bioinformatics minor at UNI
What is Bioinformatics? Developing software tools for mining biological databases. Utilizing software tools to perform biological studies.
Interdisciplinary field BIOINFORMATICS Physics Chemistry Mathematics Biology Statistics Computer Science
Why is bioinformatics hot? Large amounts of data to be analyzed: Each bit of data produced by the Human Genome Project must be sorted and analyzed, then studied for possible clues and eventual cures for diseases. Few people adequately trained in both computer science and biology. Leads to important discoveries (e.g. HIV protease inhibitors).
