Welcome Confirmands! Confirmation Preparation Class #1 Confirmation Candidates = Confirmands Parents & Sponsors Teen Helper(s) Catechist: Mr. Marty Beaulieu Catechetical Leader: Mrs. Laura Lang Pastor: Father Jerry Confirmation is a milestone on your journey of faith, not a destination!

Opening Prayer Each week we will ask a different confirmand to offer a spontaneous prayer Spontaneous prayer = informal, unrehearsed Blessing / praise / adoration = tell God that He’s great Petition / intercession = ask for your/others needs Thanksgiving = thank God for good things Contrition = express sorrow for sin Traditional prayers (should be memorized) Sign of the Cross Our Father Hail Mary Act of Contrition Apostle’s Creed or Nicene Creed

Prayer to the Holy Spirit Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the Earth. Let us pray: O God, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit, help us to know what is truly right and always to rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Introductions Let’s get to know each other as fellow travelers on this journey of faith. In a loud, clear voice, tell everyone: Your name Your school Any clubs you are in, sports you play, hobbies or activities you enjoy Why you are taking this class? What are your expectations for the class? What is your name? Which school do you attend? What are your favorite activities? Why you are here? What are your expectations for this class?

How is this class going to run? We may play games if it fits in and if we have time – Saints Bingo, Bible Trivia, Jeopardy-style Review We would like you to review homework material before class – at least skim it for familiarity Interactive - You will get more than you give Requires participation – THIS MEANS YOU Ask questions & share your thoughts Mix of reading, DVDs, Q&A, and learning games Preparation is strongly encouraged Respect others’ right to speak - ONE (1) person talking Please use the restroom before class starts Do not bring electronics to class – we see it, we keep it Keep your hands out of the desks – respect others’ things Leave the room better than we found it – clean messes Remain seated until your parent is at the door

Confirmation Requirements Confirmands must: Be baptized Be in a state of grace Have studied the faith Confirmation name may be a saint’s name or confirmand’s baptismal name Sacrament of Reconciliation CP1 & CP2 or RCIA

Documentation Requirements Church Registry Sacramental Information Form Confirmation Sponsor Certificate Saint Report Letter to Bishop Community Service (15 hours) Journal Altar Serving or Choir may count for 5 hours Living Stations may count for 5 hours Confirmation Retreat - Field Trip Permission Form

Sponsor Requirements* Confirmands must choose a Sponsor that: Has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, & Confirmation; Is at least 16 years of age; Is a single or a validly married Catholic Attends Mass weekly; receives Eucharist at least once during Easter season; Will support the Confirmand with their prayers and by their example; Is not bound by any canonical penalty; and Is not the father or mother of the one to be confirmed. * Baptismal Godparent desired but not required to be Confirmation Sponsor

Confirmation Retreat Mandatory attendance One day – all day Saturday Cost for two meals In planning stages – more details will be forthcoming

Schedule Sundays 1015-1115 @ LFS Service events Reconciliation – once each during Advent & Lent Service events Jesse Tree – sort & distribute food & gifts Three Oaks – make a meal Chesapeake Shores – visit the sick Spring Festival Living Stations of the Cross 3-4 rehearsals during Lent Performance on Good Friday First Reconciliation & First Communion Retreats
