Identification and registration

EU principles: why identification is crucial Traceability of movements Disease surveillance and control Payment of subsidies

Contribution of the EU so far TAIEX : legislation Animal Husbandry TA - Trainings of farmers - Trainings of advisors - Trainings of veterinary department staff

Identification=Prerequisite to any support to animal disease eradication

Database Location Reliability, completeness and safety Compatibility with other member states Capacity Timely updates

Methods of identification A final choice should be made and we should stick to it Identical eartags should be provided if lost Cattle: Eartags (Bolus) (In the EU, bolus are only used for goats and sheep) Sheep and goats: eartags?

Verification on the ground Mandatory reporting of births, movements (within 5 days) and slaughter. Frequency of visits by district officers should increase Field observations should match the data in the database

What the EU can contribute External assessment of the situation - Database: (TAIEX mission) to understand the situation if needed - Implementation of the identification in farms, slaughterhouses: random visits by the current TA, together with the district offices

Future activities -Procurement of a new database and related equipment, if current not satisfactory -Support in a first phase of a future TA (trainings)? What the EU can contribute
