Santa Cruz Mission 12 By : Cameron

HISTORY OF MISSION Santa Cruz was founded by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. Santa Cruz is located in Emmet and High street, Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz was founded Aug 28, 1791.

Daily Life There were 282 Indians at Santa Cruz in 1832 at Santa Cruz and about 300 in 1831 all of the Indians them did some labor, they cooked, prayed, and worked in fields. There were Padres at mission Santa Cruz and one of their names were Father Quintana the Indians attacked him they said he was treating them badly, he did die they were punished. The Padres would teach religion, language, and pray. There were Soldiers at Santa Cruz and they were there for protection, and kept the Indians from running away.

SPECIAL FEATURES Santa Cruz’s nickname is “The Hard-luck Mission” In mission Santa Cruz their is the church it was used for praying in and the cemetery was used for when people would die Santa Cruz is one of the three missions that have a name of honor “Holy Cross”

HISTORIC HIGHLIGHTS Santa Cruz is located on the shore of Monterey Bay, close to El Camino Real. In 1799a rainstorm damaged Santa Cruz so badly they had to rebuild it Named in honor of the “Holy Cross” (Santa Cruz)

MISSION TODAY What started out as a good mission turned out to be a failure , it had the least amount of Indians then any other mission.
