Welcome to iO! A guided tour to CBC/Radio-Canada’s new employee portal.

Loggin In The first step in getting the most out of iO! is logging in. Logging in allows you to view content on the homepage that’s personalized to your profile and interests. Click “log in to your account” at the top left of your homepage, next to the lock icon. A box will appear asking for your username and password. iO! uses the same username and password that you use to login to your Novell account. Check the “Remember Me” box if you want iO! to remember who you are next time you visit the portal. Click “Login” to complete the process and return to the homepage. The lock icon will now be closed and your name will appear in the sign-in box to indicate that you are completely logged in. * For reasons of security, signing in to iO! does not automatically sign you in to other applications available from iO! such as fingertips or HR for Managers.

Accessing restricted content An important feature of iO! is the ability to personalize news and information so that is more relevant to you and the job you do at CBC/Radio-Canada. Depending on the nature of the content, some of this targeted information – manager’s bulletin’s and HR information, for instance – may be restricted for viewing by a particular set of eyes only. In the same way that you have to sign-in to your account every time you open it, you’ll need to log in to iO! each time you visit in order to view your “restricted” content. You’ll know that you’re not “fully” signed-in by looking at the lock icon in the top left corner – if it isn’t closed, you might be missing information that is specifically targeted at you. That being said, clicking the “Remember Me” box when logging in ensures that iO! will recognize you every time you visit. This allows you to view your Quick Links and a portion of your selected news content without having to “fully” sign-in for restricted content. * If you share a computer with other colleagues, simply click “Log out completely” in the login box to reset iO! to “Guest User” status at the end of your visit.

Edit your profile Now that you’ve logged in, it’s time to create your profile. Creating a profile allows you to make the information that appears on your homepage more personally relevant to you. Start by clicking “Edit your profile” in the login box to get to your profile manager. The profile manager consists of three tabs: “Manage Profile”; “Content Preferences”; and “Manage Quick Links”. Each is dedicated to a specific component of your profile.

Manage Profile The “Manage Profile” tab allows you to keep your contact information up-to-date. The contact information that appears here is the same that will be available in the company directory. Information appearing in editable boxed can be updated. This includes phone, fax and cell numbers, and station (office number). Changes to other fields (name, title, etc.) must be made by request. Click the “change” tab in the upper-right corner of the profile window. A request form will appear. You will be notified by once the change has been finalized. * If you’re filling out the change request on behalf of someone else, please be sure to indicate that in the comment box of the request form.

Content Preferences We know that you are busy and don’t always have the time to read about everything that happens across the corporation. iO! allows you to set your personal content preferences to view information on your homepage that is more relevant to you and the job you do. When you feel the need to catch up on the rest of what’s happening, all you have to do is visit the “iO! News” section. The “Content Preference” tab in your profile manager allows you to add or remove categories of information that interest you. The preferences you select here will filter the news that appears in the “My News” section of your homepage.

Manage your Quick Links Whether it’s on the portal or someplace else on the web, chances are there are websites and CBC/Radio-Canada tools and applications you visit and use often. iO! allows you to create a personalised list of “Quick Links” to your favourites and get at them from your homepage. Start by clicking the “Manage Quick Links” tab in your profile manager. Sites, resources, and applications are categorized under a variety of categories. Simply check the boxes of those you want to include in your list and click “Update” to confirm your selection. You can also add your own personal favorites by clicking on “custom links”. Enter the URL of the site you want to include, give the link a name, and click the “+” button on the right to add. When you’re done creating your list, click “Update” to complete the process. Keep in mind, to access applications that are hosted outside of iO! require that you have a VPN connection.

“My Page” Now that you’ve created your profile, it’s time to discover your new homepage. “My Page” functions as a gateway to the tools and information you use everyday. The upper portion of the page features the top three stories of the day, selected by the iO! managing editor. These stories promise to be relevant, up-to-date, and refreshed on a daily basis. The “My News” section below features a selection of articles from across the corporation, personalized according to your content preferences. The convenient “Search” box at the top right of the page allows you to find people, forms, tools, or information quickly and easily. Be sure to click on “Directory” if what you’re looking for is a colleague. “My Quick Links” is a personalized list of links to your favourite websites. It serves as a control panel that provides one-click access to the tools and information you need. “My Page” also features trivia, contests, streaming headlines from CBC.ca, show promos, and much more.

“iO! News” “iO! News” is a reliable, one-stop location that centralizes all news and information from across the company. All news and articles will appear here, regardless of you content preferences. Items are categorized under four major sections: Programming News Stories pertaining to CBC/Radio-Canada programming - what’s on, audience feedback, product updates, ratings, reviews, etc. Industry News A broad range of stories related to the broadcasting industry, from across Canada and around the world. Employee News Articles on anything that concerns CBC/Radio-Canada’s employees: Health and wellness news, information on benefits, IT services, travel, and building services, etc. Organizational News Includes operational news, appointments, and non-programming initiatives. * Got something to say about a story you read? Have a story of your own to share? Click one of the two buttons on the left side of the page to submit comments, opinions, and story ideas to our editorial staff. iO! wants to hear from you!

Task-Based Information iO! was carefully organized to make your life at work easier. Instead of organizing content according to business departments, iO! presents clear and concise how-to information, intuitively categorized according to tasks that employees typically need to do on a day-to-day basis. The end result is a one-stop shop for all information and tools related to a topic, no matter which department in the organization provides the source material. Content is organized under three major categories: Programming and Production Resources –A centralized collection of resources and tools that are important to day-to-day program development and front-line activity. Administrative Resources –Instructional information, reference material, forms, documentation, systems and tools. Employee Resources –Information and resources that employees need to manage their careers, wellness and employment with CBC/Radio-Canada.

Corporate Information “The Corporation” section is a forum for CBC/Radio-Canada departments to describe who they are, how they are organized, what they do, and the services they provide. Departments will also use these pages to communicate information about key projects and initiatives.

Try it. Tell us what you think. So now you’re all set to discover iO! for yourself. We hope you enjoy the experience. And remember - this is just the beginning. Our goal is to grow iO! over time into everything you want and need in an employee portal. Hearing what you’ve got to say is a big part of that. We’ll gladly take any feedback you have: general impressions to specifics, the good and the not so good. What would you want to see changed? What's missing? What do you think would make iO! better for you? We’re listening.
