Presentation transcript:

SPACE TRAVEL Space, the final frontier

Astronaut  A person that is trained to be a pilot, navigator or scientist in space.

Exploration  To travel for the purpose of discovery.

Life-Support System  Equipment that makes life possible in the deadly space environment. What life-support system is this astronaut using?

Probe  A space ship with no people but with instruments and cameras sent into space to get information that it sends back to Earth.

Rover  A crewed or uncrewed vehicle used in exploring the terrain of a planet. Mars Rover

Satellite  An object that orbits another object.  Natural Satellites are moons that orbit planets.  Artificial Satellites are man made. They send and receive info. about earth and space. Natural Satellites Artificial Satellite

Space Shuttle  A reusable spacecraft with wings designed to be launched like a rocket, to carry out a mission, and to land on Earth like an airplane.  They bring people, equipment and satellites into space.

Space Station  A large satellite where astronauts and scientists live. It is designed to remain in orbit around Earth for an extended period. Serves as a base for exploration, conducting research, repairing satellites, and performing other space- related activities.
