Over voltage protection for analog input Two chips involve the analog input channels: multiplexer and ADC The multiplexer (MAX4582) has the protecting function ± 5 V The maximum continuous current pass multiplexer is 20mA The serial resistor on ELMB adaptor is 1 K for each line The safety input range of ADC is -2 to 5V.
Analogy input over voltage protection When over voltage happened, larger current passes the diode The over voltage drops on the resistor and internal mechanism but not Only positive input has been tested up to 70 Volt 1K
Analogy input over voltage protection Both ground (Red) and no ground (Blue) input has been tested In all the case the ELMB goes back to normal after the voltage drop back Only one channel has been tested
Hardware Resetting When software reset cannot work like what happened in Frascati beam test, hardware resetting are needed Two ways of hardware resetting Switch off and then on CAN power Set the pin one of CAN BUS to zero. The first method will reset all the ELMBs powered by same power supply. The second way can reset each ELMBs individually. But a lot of cabling are needed. As one ELMB is used to control the power supply, we can use it to control individual reset.
