Biography Born in Switzerland on Dec. 18, : Attended Munich Academy. 1906: Klee married pianist Lily Stumpf and settles in Munich. 1906: He joins “Der blaue Reiter” (The Blue Rider) an expressionist group that contributed much to the development of abstract art. Died in Switzerland June. 29, 1940 from Scleroderma.

Early influences Friendship with artists Wassily Kandinsky and August Macke. Also members of the Der Blaue Reiter. Klee toured Italy after his studies at Munich Academy. He was fascinated by early Christian and Byzantine art.

Painting style and technique “Art does not reproduce the visible, it makes visible,”. Klee was fascinated with German idealist metaphysics and saw the world as a model.
