Preface The English project ‘English for Tourism’ is designed for Tourist or people who are interested in Baan Nong Khao. This project consists of many places to visit concerning nature, temple, history and famous people in Baan Nong Khao and vocabulary give the tourist the meaning of Thai especially Kanchanaburi. We hope this project would be useful for tourism and apologize for some mistakes. We would like to thank our teacher for his comment and encourage. It encourages us to work with this English project ‘English for tourism’. By the Organizers

INDRARAM TEMPLE

Indraram Temple The old vihara was rebuilt instead of the farmer on which was destroyed in the war between Thailand. Burma in the reign of Ayutthaya. THAI DESSERT GROUP The Thai Dessert Group consists of the old local people at Baan Nong Khao who wish to teach other local people how to make Thai ancient desserts of which raw materials can be found locally i.e. “Khanom Tan” or palm cakes are made from fan- palm and rice flour. The soft kernels of ripe fan-palm are squeezed and filtered through a piece of white cloth. Then they will be mixed with rice flour and seasoning and steamed. After that, they will be topped with shredded coconut.

“Khaw Krieb Wow” or crisp rice cakes are made from sticky rice. It will be steamed, battered, flavored and spread out in thin pancake-like sheet and dried in the sun. When toasted, they become crisp and are considered quite atelicity.

CULTURE GRAD

The culture grad is a tourist place to perform a light and sound folk drama entitled “Mr. Baan Thong of Baan Nong Khao local people in seriously conserving culture. NONGKHAO MUSEUM

The local museum was modified from Kowit Indraram School’s deserted building which was the first one made of bricks in Kanchanaburi and constructed in Then, a “Group of Baan Nong Khao Local People” and teachers raised a fund by holding a Buddhist ceremony called “Too Pa-dpa” to repair the building to be used as a museum. BOON THONG OF NONG KHAO VILLAGE Nong Khao is a sub-district in Kanchanaburi province. During the Ayutthaya period, Kanchanaburi was a frontier town and Nong Khao Village was on and army route during battles. After the war ended, Village gathered here a large swamp and built a new village there called Ban Nong Ya Dok Khao which is now Ban Nong Khao. Baan Nong Khao has always relieved attention by various kings such as King Rama IV and Rama V of the Rattanakosin period. The two kings used to pay a visit to Kanchanaburi and would stop by Ban Nong Khao.

Most villages there still live a simple life in an agricultural society they are united, patient, and generous. The old tradition style of Thai house can still be seen at Nong Khao village. The centuries the heart of all villages is temple called Wat Intraram or Wat Nong Khao. Nong Khao villagers still have a traditional way of life and culture, which has been passed down from their older generations. At present, traditional folk game of Nong Khao Village can only re observed during various seasons. Different festivals take dace at different periods of time. Some of them are even being forgotten. This is the reason why Nong Khao Villagers organizing cultural tourism with provided activities in the evening for visitors to Kanchanaburi.

Therefore in order to conserve and recover traditional Thai culture, the villages provide a tasty local dinner with a folk performance called “Boon & Thong of Nong Khao “Village with displays the cultural way of life of the Villagers of Nong Khao. This way, visitors no longer need to wait till it is the particular season to observe any festival. Furthermore, booth of traditional desserts such as Khanom tan, Khanom kriap wow, and Khanom thuai will be set for tourists to taste.

During the Songkran Festival (April 13-15) of each year, the villagers of Ban Nong Khao would gather at Wat Nong Khao (Indraram) to enjoy traditional games which later became a festival called “ The Glorious Past of Nong Khao Village which displays the cultural way of life of the village. Visitors will also see various kinds of demonstrations, for example, ways of paddy pounding, making sweets and palm sugar, paddy farming, as well as playing game and various from of entertainment.
