FREEDOM 2 LEARN LAPTOP USE WITH CLASS

WELCOME TO LAPTOP 101  Here’s what you need to know to use the laptops with your class. Please follow the instructions and that should ensure that things will go well for all classes.  Before using the laptop lab, you must go through a brief inservice. See Monty, Jim, Becky or Paul.  To book a time with the laptops, check the laptop binder in the main office. The binder will include this information, a 6 day schedule, class lists and a key to the laptop classroom. You also need to know the laptop combination to access the laptops.

LAPTOP BINDER

 When you open the laptop cart, scramble the lock number. You will notice that the laptops are numbered and are sitting in the corresponding slot. The laptops should always be returned to these slots.

 The first time a homeroom uses the laptops, the subject teacher will assign a specific laptop to that student. i.e. Jim and Paul in 9S will always use laptop #1.

RULES FOR LAPTOPS  Don’t touch the screen  No food or drinks in the same room with the laptops  Keep work area clear of clutter

Getting to Work  Handout laptops to class one at a time. Please follow the assigned numbers for each student.  Open the laptop by pressing the release button on the front edge.

 Turn on by pressing the button in the middle just under the screen.

 Students log on as they normally do at any computer  Work on assignment.  Any work that is printed will go to the games room across the hall

SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE  Students can shut down from the “Start” menu  Students return laptops one at a time to the cart. The teacher is responsible for returning the laptops to the correct slot and plugging in the power cord to recharge.  Close cart and lock. Make sure the combination is scrambled before locking the lock.  When you leave the class, please lock the door and return the binder to the office.
