 First point of contact for any issues ◦ See prof first, for issues concerning a specific course  is our preferred way of communication  As much as possible, try to set an appointment with us. This will allow us to prepare as needed…  Schedule for David Bray Schedule for David Bray  Schedule for Marc St-Hilaire: ◦ Tue/Thu: 2:30-3:30pm ◦ Or any other time by appointment

 BIT website: ◦ BIT Handbook ◦ Schedule is for convenience…refer to Carleton Central for your official schedule ◦ Demo contact info for key people  Carleton website:  Undergraduate calendar (Courses, programs, regulations, etc.) Undergraduate calendar ◦ All BIT classes follow Carleton’s term calendar (not Algonquin’s): ◦ Important Dates for the academic year Important Dates for the academic year  Algonquin Student Handbook: Algonquin Student Handbook ◦ Blackboard ◦ College Services ◦ Health Services, Lost & Found, Peer Tutoring, Parking, etc ◦ College Directives ◦ Quick Reference Phone Numbers

 Labs = hands on  Several lab sections (section Ax) so that you have access to all the necessary equipment and enjoy better prof:student ratios  Demo of alternate schedulealternate schedule  At Algonquin, labs start on day 1 ◦ unless specifically informed otherwise  At Carleton, labs do not usually start until the 2nd or 3rd week… ◦ verify with each course instructor

 Carleton student card: ◦ 407 University Centre ◦ Can be used almost everywhere on campus  Algonquin student card: ◦ Get proof of BIT student status from Algonquin’s Registrar’s Office ◦ Take that and your Carleton student ID card to room C044 to obtain an Algonquin student ID card  Allows you to enjoy facilities at both campuses…

 No; at your option, you can write the official Cisco Certification exams.  Best practice: ◦ Write your certification exam as soon as you can, while the details are still fresh in your memory.  Write your CCNA ( ) after 2 nd year  Or, ICND1 ( ) after 1 st year (CCENT),  then, ICND2 ( ) after 2 nd year  Write each CCNP test (ROUTE, SWITCH, TSHOOT) shortly after completing the corresponding NET course in 3 rd and 4 th year.

 No specific needs  All equipment is available at both campuses  Most students will still use their own laptop during the lectures and labs. ◦ Mac and PC

 Your rapt attention! ;)  Pen and paper to take notes ◦ Or your tablet, laptop, etc, if you’re that proficient!  During the first lecture, the instructor will go through the course outline and explain what is required for success in the course.

 Will be mentioned during the first lecture and also written in the course outline.  Algonquin Bookstore Algonquin Bookstore  Carleton Bookstore Carleton Bookstore

 OC Transpo App OC Transpo App  Typically, O-Train & bus  Route may change depending on day/time

 Thu, Sept 3, your classes will be at Algonquin  Quick e‐Tour of Algonquin ◦

 Do your best not to get behind. ◦ Failing some courses can delay your graduation by a full year! This is particularly expensive for international students!!  Ask for help when needed – don't wait until the end of the course.  Get involved in various associations, sport teams, campus life, BIT society, etc.
