4 Private car: 2 Dead (5/Mar/01) Straight road near Nizwa Eid Holidays: 2 man drove from Yibal to Muscat after a 12 hr shift. Slept a few hours and drove back to Yibal. They died in a high speed roll- over on their way back to Yibal. They were not wearing their seatbelts.

6 Private car: 1 LTI (7/Dec/01) This driver got a message that his brother had died in a car accident. He drove of at night in his private car to go home. He rolled over on a bad part of the road. He laid injured in his car for 6 hours before he was found the next morning. He was lucky. There was no Safe Journey Management. Saih Rawl-Musallim at night

8 Private car: 1 Dead (14/Jan/02) A man missed the crew bus to Nimr. He took his private car, After a full day work he decided to drive to Bahja (at night). He did not see the 2 vehicles that were on the road because of a broken wheel. Was he tired? He hit them and killed one of the bystanders. Rima-Bahja road at night

10 Bilal al Hosni was 44 yrs old. He was a father of 6 children He did NOT wear his seatbelt He sat ON it ! He rolled over. He paid with his life. Private car: 1 Dead (13/Feb/02) Bilal worked as a gardener in Fahud. He provided a taxi service after a full days work. He probably fell asleep at hrs am on the road to Fahud Nahada - Fahud road at night

May/ Why? In one year 4 people died, and 1 almost. Staff work 12 hour shifts for 1, 2 or 3 weeks duty tour Staff are too tired to drive safely after a full-day work Driving at night is very high riskWhy? The killing MUST stop The suffering MUST stop Your company has a DUTY to protect you You have a DUTY to protect yourself Private Vehicles in the Interior

May/ How will it work? Start and End 1:At Start and End of your duty tour: Transport between “home/pick-up point” and “work site” must in principle be provided by your Company (i.e.: Bus, Flight, Car). Only in very exceptional cases and after authorisation: private vehicle OK. During 2:During your tour of duty: NO use of private vehicle (with exception off emergencies - authorised by Senior Site Mgr). Private Vehicles in the Interior

May/ Details:To/From interior at start/end duty tour exceptional cases onlyPrivate car in exceptional cases only eg: no Company transport available registerDriver must register with senior site manager Mandatory Defensive Driving Course DDC-1/3: as of 1/Sept/2002 Mandatory “Safe Journey Management” procedures No km allowance if company transport available Periodic vehicle inspection strongly recommended Private Vehicles in the Interior

May/ Details:private vehicle shall NOT be used during tour of duty Upon arrival vehicle shall be placed in a “restricted area” under control of senior site manager. Vehicle shall not be used unless authorised by senior site manager. Request for use shall be recorded Authorisation for use will be granted for emergencies/compassionate cases. Alternative safe transport might be offered instead. Private Vehicles in the Interior
