Cultural Diversity in German Speaking Countries Intercultural Assimilation Joseph Sanchez IB German 5 Quarter 1

Cultural Assimilation Cultural assimilation is basically the integration of an ethnic group or a group of immigrants into another culture.

Immigrant Assimilation Although it is believed that different ethnicities effect assimilation that is not quite true. Each immigrant group, whether they are poor or rich, will be clumped together. An ethnic group can assimilate into German culture easier if they speak German.

Immigrant Assimilation Many believe that class lines determine whether or not a particular peoples will blend into the German world. Although, it is actually the type of jobs the immigrants receive that will determine whether or not they assimilate or not. If a family only has a three year permit and receives work at a specialized job they are less likely to assimilate at all.

Immigrant Assimilation The largest group of immigrants in Germany is the Turks who make up 1.9 million of the German population. Some Turks adapt to the German language by combining their own language with it.

Charter of Diversity The German Diversity Charter was created in December Germany joined the Charter in Since then more than 1,000 companies have joined. The multinational company Henkel AG and Co. joined the cause of the Diversity Charter.

Charter of Diversity The charter is designed to promote diversity and eliminate prejudice in the workplace. With the charter a person of any race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, or age is appreciated. Migrant workers from around Germany now have stable jobs at workplaces that promote the Charter.

Assimilation Questions 1.Approximately how many companies have joined the Charter’s cause? 2.Under the Charter of Diversity do companies have the right to be racist to their employees? 3.What is the largest factor determining whether or not an immigrant group will assimilate to German culture or not?

Assimilation Answers 1.More than 1,000 companies 2.No. Under the Charter companies are less racist and more accepting. 3.If a family can speak German they will have a greater chance to assimilate to German culture.
