Budget: FY 2005 Appropriation increased $19 million to $109 million FY 2006 $109 million appropriated; $104 received after CDC-wide cuts Increasing pressure on NCHS program operations Vital Statistics -- funding to States reduced $1.5 million (one month) – concerns about funding for new regs and system improvements
Budget Status -- FY 2007 Budget Status -- FY 2007 President’s budget same level as FY 2006 for NCHS Impact from CDC-wide appropriations is unclear Continued cost increases will have to be absorbed Further survey reductions will be needed to address the impact of permanent funding at this level

Good Morning Pleased to be here for this Partner Update The Vitality of NAPHSIS is tremendous and I congratulate all of you and your leadership. Shows in the extensive and highly substantive agenda. It’s an important time for you and for NCHS, particularly because of the emergence of health information technology as a priority for this Secretary as well as the president.
