Media Production Skills Outcome 2 Students should be able to use a range of technical equipment, applications and media processes to present ideas, achieve effects and explore aesthetic qualities in production design plan specification areas appropriate to a media form You will undertake and document two or more production exercises. It is part of your SAT and assessed with a S or N in Unit 3 and is submitted and marked as a part of the SAT in Unit 4. This work is subject to an external review in October. Pre Production stage – planning process where you decide on medium, your audience, intention, style, and/or genre. Storyboards, treatments, etc. Production – undertaking a video shoot, or constructing a web page, animation. Post production stage – the most important stage and often underestimated. Editing footage and creating titles, multimedia artists will publish and test their work. The Media production design process contains both written and visual representations of the proposed product. Audience – every media production is made for an audience, so every aspect of your media production from titles to credits need to appeal to your chosen audience. Intention – the media design plans always outline the maker’s intention in terms of the proposed product’s purpose, impact and outcome. Production exercises – ensure you know the exact requirements of the task, time allowed for each exercise, the resources you are allowed to use and the particular aspect of the task on which you will be assessed.

Media Production Design On completion of this Unit the student should be able to use production skills to prepare a media production design plan incorporating specifications appropriate for the chosen media product. What will you do? You will prepare a media production design plan for the media production you will make in semester two. The design will include written and visual documentation outlining design plan specifications appropriate to the media form in which you will work. How is this assessed? Your media production design plan is part of the School-assessed task. Criteria sheets will be given out to you prior to starting this assessment task but you can look at one @ http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au What is it worth? Unit 3 outcome 3 is assessed as a S or N and is submitted and marked as part of the SAT in Unit 4. The work will be externally reviewed in October so it will be retained by me and stored in a safe place. So this is where you put all your knowledge and skills studied in narrative and production skills together. Swinburne Senior Secondary College hosts the media production design plans online and archives design plans going back over a couple of years. www.swinburne-senior-sc.edu.vic.gov.au

Media Production Design continued Have no idea of what you are going to do??? Start a visual diary in which you record everything and anything that captures your imagination, these may include clippings from newspapers, sketches, swatches, movie reviews, artricles from directors and excerpts from web pages, interesting sounds, digital images. Review them every week and reflect on how you idea is progressing. In units 3 and 4 you will work in the same medium in both semesters. The plan you create in unit 3 is for the product you will produce in unit 4. Once you have submitted your media production design plan you will be able to make minor adjustments during the production design but you CANNOT change your medium or idea. The plan you design in unit 3 WILL BE the product you produce in unit 1.

Year 12 Media Unit 4 Outcome 1. Media process Outcome 2. Social values Outcome 3. Media Influence

Media Process What will you do? How is this outcome assessed? Keeping in mind limitations of; -the weather, where you will be working mainly in winter. -The equipment; you will be sharing unless you have your own and ensure it is compatible with the schools computers. - your actors; how to manage them and what is someone pulls out? - access to facilities; how many computers we have and sharing them. How much time should I plan for? • A very rough guide is one to two hours per mark, and this will not be all class time. This assessment task forms part of your study score for media it is important every aspect of the task is completed by you and you alone.
