MOVIE MAKING & THE GREEN SCREEN presented by: Ken Hughes (NYSAFLT)

OUR AGENDA  Why use self created videos in the classroom?  What do you need to do be successful?  Why consider a green screen?  Examples  Let’s play!

WHY USE VIDEO?  Medium our students know  Pictures = 1000 words … Videos = ?? words  Exciting, engaging, unique, inventive, creative  Reproduction/replication is easy with internet

WHAT DO YOU NEED?  Flip cameras are ideal  iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, computer camera  Handheld camera - tripod  Still images AND video  Flash memory & SD card

WHAT DO YOU NEED?  iMovie  Windows Live Movie Maker  Adobe Premiere Elements  YouTube Video Editor  Finale Cut Pro  iMotion HD (iOS)  Corel Video Studio  Videolicious 8-16 GBs of RAM (memory) 500+ GB hard drive Intel Processor – 2.4 GHz or more

TIME DETAILS  Build this into, not in addition, to your curriculum  Use class time to brainstorm and create in L2  Actual filming should be brief (when?)  Video editing and production is time intensive. Can a student or a video production club help?  The more you practice, the better you’ll be (sounds familiar, non?)

WHY USE THE SCREEN?  Unlimited possibilities  More fun = More learning  Expanded creativity and imagination  One step closer to the real thing  More memorable, More engaging  More unique  21 st Century!

PROJECT EXAMPLES  Open House video that allows students to demonstrate in L2 (EX)EX  ON FIELD sports report of the championship team  Weather forecast map of L2 country that is as big as the student  Cooking show that rivals Martha Stewart  Fashion show on a “real” runway.

PROJECT EXAMPLES  Cultural updates from the actual location  Adjective practice (Photo Booth)  News reporting of current event (fake news desk)  Art critique inside a museum  Travel information inside a foreign train station  Celebrate a holiday in-country

GREEN SCREEN  Ephotoinc.com or Amazon.com  Search Green Screen Kit  $150 - $300 for everything  Why Chroma Key Green or Blue?  Comes in a bag with no directions … good luck!  Thousands of pre-made backgrounds available on line digitaljuice.com or clipcanvas.com

LET’S PLAY!
