TIMETABLE Maths and Literacy lessons take place every day In Year 2, the children mix into groups based on teacher assessments of each child, as well as more formal end of year assessments. Groups are fluid and teachers assess the groups frequently. Children have a sports coach Kyle once a week for outdoor PE on Wednesday and also have another PE session every Tuesday. The weekly timetable also includes RE, Guided Reading, Phonics, Handwriting, Spelling, ICT and IPC.

IPC UNITS THIS TERM The IPC is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for subjects which include science, history, geography, art, music and design technology. It also includes an important element for international mindedness and for personal learning.

INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM IPC Our first IPC unit this term is called ‘The Earth our home habitat’. This unit looks at: Different habitats around the world and how animals and plants survive there. It explores habitats as far as rainforests and as close as the school playground! We will be completing a study of trees and creating our own micro habitats. We would also like to take the children on a local walk to Forty Hall or Hilly fields in the next few weeks to explore living things in our local area.

INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM IPC Our next unit after half term will be called ‘The Magic Toymaker’ and we are planning to take the children to the V &A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal green for a ‘Toys from the Past’ workshop. This will be on the 4 th November and will cost around £3 per child. The children will need a packed lunch and will be travelling by train. We will send a letter with further information in the near future. Coming up….. Bedtime Hour and seaside!!!

The New National Curriculum Year 2 will now be following the new National Curriculum and will still complete a National Curriculum test and assessments at the end of Year 2. This will consist of Mathematics – Arithmetic and Reasoning Reading Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation

READING It is an expectation that all children read regularly at home. The children will change their books and reading diaries will be checked every Wednesday and acknowledged with a signature. Children will continue with phonics readers and bring levelled books home to share. Guided reading and some DSR will take place every day.

HOMEWORK In Year 2, homework is given out on a Friday and collected in on a Wednesday Children have an orange homework book They will continue to receive mathletics homework and their password will be stuck in their books Reading and Spelling tasks are expected to be done in addition to the Friday homework

Newsletters are now available every fortnight on the school website. Please go to News and Events - Newsletters Diary dates for the year are on the website – sports days, concerts, INSET days, etc Please check the website for updates on policies, curriculum areas and staff changes SCHOOL WEBSITE
