Round 1: Regional Planning Teams

1. How many Regional Planning Teams are there? Answer: 16 Point Value: 1

2. In every RPT there are at least two types of institutions -- name both types. Answer: district school boards community colleges Point Value: 2

3. RPTs are required to deliver one type of regional forum -- who is the target audience? Answer: Dual credit teachers, college faculty delivering dual credits Point Value: 1 Regional Planning Teams deliver activities and forums, and dual credit programs.

4. RPTs receive funding to operate. Name two of the items for which they can request operating funding. Answer: (One point for any two) Point Value: 2

Round 2: Dual Credit - Participants

1. List the three target groups identified as eligible for dual credits in the dual credit policy document. Answer: Dual credit programs are aimed at students who fall into one of the three following categories: students who face significant challenges in completing the requirements for graduation. This group includes disengaged and underachieving students who have the potential to succeed but are at risk of not graduating, and students who left school before graduating. These students are the primary focus of dual credit programs; students in Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs; students in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP). 2. Where can you find the criteria for student selection for dual credit programs? 3. Which group has responsibility for selecting students for dual credits? Answer: Point Value: 1 See page 24. Entry to dual credit programs is guided by the Student Success Team. Students may indicate their interest in the program on their course selection sheets, or they may be recommended for the program by school staff. Student Success team

4. Identify three pieces of evidence that can be used to determine if a student is underachieving. Answer: (one point for each correct answer) The student: has fewer credits than average for his or her grade and is therefore not on track to graduate on time; is older than other students in his or her grade; was making progress earlier, but progress has slowed; is demonstrating a decline in achievement or marks over time. 5. Must an OYAP student have an RTA in order to participate in Level 1 apprenticeship dual credits with TCU Seat Purchase? Answer: (One point for correct answer and 1 point for writing out in full each acronym.) Yes OYAP = Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program RTA = Registered Training Agreement TCU = (Ministry of) Training, Colleges and Universities Point Value: 4 See page 18.

Round 3: Dual Credit Approaches

1. Name two of the locations where dual credits can be delivered. Answer: (one point each for identifying two locations) Dual credit programs may be delivered in various college or school board locations, as appropriate – for example, in secondary schools, college campuses, college skills-training centres, alternative schools, or adult education centres. Point Value: 2 See page 11.

2. What is the maximum number of college- delivered dual credits that students can count towards their OSSD? Answer: Four Point Value: 1 See page 8. College-delivered courses Students may count a maximum of four optional credits towards the OSSD earned through approved college-delivered dual credit programs, if they are not also claiming credit for external (music) credentials. 4 Team-taught courses The number of optional credits that can be earned through team-taught courses is not restricted. Students may earn compulsory credits through team-taught dual credit courses.

3. Can time spent in college-delivered dual credits at a college count towards a students' cooperative education placement hours? Answer: No Point Value: 1 See page 9. The student may take the college course when it is available and, with the approval of the cooperative education teacher and the workplace supervisor, arrange to complete the in-school class and work placement hours required for the cooperative education credits at alternative times.

4. What is critical in determining which college courses are suitable to pair with Ontario Curriculum courses for team-taught dual credits? Answer: Courses that are paired must have significant overlap. Point Value: 1 See page 12. Students are enrolled in a course that covers the content of both a secondary curriculum course and a college curriculum course.

5. How is funding for dual credit teachers calculated? Does this differ for team-taught vs. college delivered dual credits? Answer: (one point for each correct answer) through the ratio in the funding formula … Secondary school teacher instructional costs for approved day- school dual credit programs are provided through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) 6 in the same way as for any credit course. No Point Value: 2 See page 9. It is a requirement of all dual credit courses that a secondary school teacher be assigned to provide a variety of supports to students.

Round 4: Dual Credits - Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting

1. For college-delivered dual credits -- what letter does the Ontario curriculum course code end in -- for college-delivered college courses? For college-delivered Level 1 apprenticeship programs? Answer: (one point for each correct answer) T (TZE 4T) Y (TTE 4Y) Point Value: 2 See Sample 9. Students are enrolled in a course that covers the content of both a secondary curriculum course and a college curriculum course.

2. If students fail a college-delivered college course, are they eligible to earn dual credits? Answer: No Point Value: 1 See page 19. Students who do not successfully complete the course by attaining the passing grade established by the college will not receive credit towards the OSSD for the course.

3. In the case of a team-taught dual credit, does Growing Success apply to the assessment and evaluation of the college course? Answer: No Point Value: 1 See page 21. For college curriculum content, the college determines the assessment and evaluation standards. For Ontario secondary school curriculum, Ministry of Education assessment and evaluation policy applies, as set out in Growing Success.

4. Who is responsible for completing the Learning Skills and Work Habits section and the Attendance section of the provincial report card? Answer: (one point for each correct answer) Dual Credit teacher Point Value: 2 See page 19. The Learning Skills and Work Habits section and the Attendance section of the provincial report card should both be completed by the dual credit teacher.

5. Who is responsible for awarding dual credits on a student's Ontario Student Transcript (OST) for a college-delivered dual credit? Answer: Secondary School principal Point Value: 1 See page 19. Only a secondary school principal may award credit on a student’s OST for a college-delivered course. The principal will record the mark as provided by the college instructor or professor.
