FYI …

1.Required by law to verify that all new employees are eligible to work in the U.S. 2.All new employees must provide documentation of their eligibility to work on or before their first day of employment. 3.Documentation can take the form of a birth certificate, passport, etc. 4.Documentation must be shown in person to human resources department. 5.ICE audit has determined that we did not fully comply with these regulations. In many cases, employees worked and were paid for time they worked prior to going through the verification process. 6.Now facing a multi-million dollar fine for infractions. 7.Must be careful to comply with the regulations. 8.Employees who do not complete the verification process on or before the first day of employment will not be paid for any work performed prior to verification. 9.Research Foundation will no longer be processing retroactive pay. 10.Applies to additional pay to faculty through the RF. The RF cannot accept the University’s verification of eligibility because technically a separate employer. 11.Bottom line: if new research foundation hires are anticipated, must provide documentation to verify eligibility to work on or before their first day on the job. 12.Ramifications of non-compliance are very serious – failure to comply could jeopardize ability to receive federal grants
