Why Skill Development? The changing demographic profile of the country, with 54% of its population under 25 years of age, the rising aspirations of our youth who seek better jobs and higher incomes The growing requirements of industry for an efficient, well trained workforce – have contributed to a focus on skill development. Speed, Scale and Skill are the three driving themes of the Ministry’s efforts. Skilling is a lifelong process. Hence, skill up-gradation and re- skilling are fundamental components of the skilling cycle. The Ministry also sees a close connection between skilling and entrepreneurship. We seek to create synergies between these two areas, so that our youth can aspire to being job seekers and job creators. 2

Role of the Ministry The Ministry is responsible for co-ordination of all skill development efforts across the country, removal of disconnect between demand and supply of skilled manpower, building the vocational and technical training framework, skill up-gradation, building of new skills, and innovative thinking not only for existing jobs but also jobs that are to be created 5

How do they work? Pre-Requisition for Skill Training companies to register as PIA (Project Implementation Agency) with concerned department as training partners to implement Training Program, Skill Development Program, Employment Linked Programs, Govt. organizations invite EOI to empanel companies at national and state level Companies participate in the EOI for empanelment Govt. organizations invite EOI from companies to work with them as training partners at state level Companies participate in the EOI / RFP / Tender and receive work from govt. if eligible and prepare / submit proper documents as mentioned in the EOI / RFP / Tender 7

NSDC - Achievements Over 4 million students trained 207 private sector partnerships for training and capacity building, each to train at least 50,000 persons over a 10-year period. 37 Sector Skill Councils (SSC) approved in services, manufacturing, agriculture & allied services, and informal sectors. Sectors include 19 of 20 high priority sectors identified by the Government and 25 of the sectors under Make in India initiative Qualification Packs with 6,625 unique National Occupational Standards (NOS). These have been validated by over 1000 companies. Vocational training introduced in 10 States, covering 1290 schools, 2 Boards Community Colleges under UGC, benefitting over 2.5 lakh students. Curriculum based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) and SSC certification. NSDC is working with 21 universities for alignment of education and training to NSQF Designated implementation agency for the largest voucher-based skill development program, the National Skill Certification and Monetary Reward Scheme (STAR Scheme) Skill Development Management System (SDMS) with 606 training partners, training centres, trainers, 20 employment portals, 29 assessment agencies and 2808 empanelled assessors. National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) The National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), an autonomous body, (registered as a Society under the Society's Registration Act 1860) was created with the mandate to co-ordinate and harmonize the skill development activities in the country, is part of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) Coordinate and harmonize the approach to skill development among various Central Ministries/Department. State Governments, the NSDC and the Private sector. Be the nodal agency for State Skill Development Missions Ensure that the skilling needs of the disadvantaged and the marginalized groups like SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, women and differently abled persons are taken care of and discharge any other function as may be assigned to it by the Government of India.
