Career Exploration Junior Advisory April, 2013

Does Education Pay Off?  People with more education usually make more than people with less education.  Unemployment is less among those with more education.  As a class – make some estimates on what you think the unemployment rate is for each group and also estimate what you think the average weekly earnings are for each group.  Doctoral Degree ????  Bachelors Degree????  AA Degree????  Let’s see…..

Let’s check out some jobs.  Everyone please take a copy of the top jobs in the United States (packet of papers with a key on top).  This is a different way to look at careers – not based on your interests – but money and time in school.  There are MANY things to consider when selecting a career.  And it may/will change many times in your lifetime.  This information is a bit outdated – but it’s the format and the job exposure we want you to get.  Updated info can be obtained from a link later in presentation.

Possible Jobs for You  Slowly read through the jobs on the following pages.  Place a check mark in the left column for jobs that might interest you.  Make a mental note of the earnings and education & training columns.
