As a Predicate Noun or Predicate Nominative (Remember you need a linking verb in the sentence to ‘link’ the subject to the predicate noun) My brother is the funniest kid in the class. 3. As an Appositive Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is a crowded city.

Uses of Nouns- A review 7. As an object of the complement. An object complement completes the meaning of the direct object- the sentence might not make sense by itself. My grandfather named his cat Peaches.

Verbs Three types of verbs: action, linking and helping (Remember- a helping verb cannot stand alone. It must be used with another verb) Action: Michael jumped through the hoop and did a summersault. Linking: ( Most common linking verbs are froms of the verb ‘to be’) She was anxious and upset over her grades. Mr. Smith is a math teacher.

Verbs Other linking verbs are: Smell Something smells funny. Look Taste Feel Sally felt sick during class. Remain Turn Appear John appeared pale after having the flu. Become Sound Seem David seems quiet in class. Grow Stand
