What do you know? Part 1

Assign each group member TWO word classes. Each of you must c reate THREE different sentences using your given word classes. Identify each class and the sentence type (STRUCTURE) Verb Noun Adjective Adverb Determiner Preposition Conjunction/connective Pronoun

Card task You MUST make notes! Read the words on your cards. Look up any unfamiliar words in the dictionary and write down the meaning Comment on the words on the cards. Consider how language has changed. Comment on attitudes towards language. Do men and women use different words? Explain How do children pick up words and their meanings? Can language be controlled? Comment on the influence of other languages

Text analysis and more grammar! Read the extracts. How does the blurb use language to engage the potential reader? Context – genre, audience, purpose, situation Different modes – narrative, speech Slang, colloquial language, taboo language etc and effect on context List 3 verbs, 3 adjectives and 3 nouns from each text and say how they are effective
