What is it? Pre-AP courses are academically advanced courses designed to challenge motivated students to understand rigorous content. Course work is built on the core academic curriculum following the Texas Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) expectations for each course. The purpose is to lay foundation for the college board test in language arts. Academic Profile: Grade of 90 or more in an academic class Grade of 80 or more in a Pre-AP class Students that have been in the GT program Commended on TAKS Reading Test in sixth grade

Read the course overview. Both a parent and the student needs to sign their section of the agreement and give contact information. Keep one copy at home and bring a signed copy back for your file. **This will count as your first grade. If you have any questions, them to:

All assignments are listed on the board daily. Copy them down on your agenda sheet and keep in your homework folder. Note whether there is an asterisks or a box with the date after them. Quizzes, timed writings, and a few other assignments may be due by the end of the class period and are marked with an asterisks(*) on the board. You may not take these home. Assignments with a box after them are due on the date posted in the box. Projects are over a several week period. You will be given at adequate notice of these deadlines. Sometimes these projects may overlap into the next six weeks. A calendar of due dates, rubrics for assignments, and reading schedules are handed out within a few days of the novels for outside reading.

All assignments need to be turned in by the due date. Late work– Pre AP agreement – work is to be completed on time. ***Assignments will not be accepted beyond the third day it was due (except in rare cases). One day late max. score 80% - two days late max score 50% - three days or more late score will be zero. If you are absent— You will have two days from the day you were absent to complete the assignment. If you hand in work later than this it will be considered late work. It is your responsibility to copy assignments from the agenda posted on the board and to retrieve worksheets and handouts from the assignment crate.

How will I know how I am doing? 1.Not all assignments are graded, some are assigned to provide a learning opportunity or practice. However, this does not mean that it does not count. 2.Not all assignments are equal. You are often given a rubric with the assignment that explains how it will be scored. 3.Parents can check your current grade by logging in to Parent Portal 24/7. 4.At the end of the third week of each six weeks, progress reports are posted and/or mailed. Grade cards are posted or mailed at the end of each six weeks. 5.If you have not completed assignments and need help, it is your responsibility to advise me that and to attend tutoring.
