Joe Dahl – Product Specialist Spanning the Oracle EBS Reporting Spectrum Noetix Business Intelligence Joe Dahl – Product Specialist

BI: Necessary & Difficult The return on your investment in E-Business Suite can’t be realized without a robust BI solution… Because of the complexity of the Oracle E-Business and numerous configuration options & challenges, such as access to data, generic reports, application upgrades, etc, your return on investment on EBS can’t be realized without a robust BI solution to produce the types of reports organizations are looking for with the right type of data. The challenges are many, the options few..

Why Invest in BI? “Don’t implement BI – implement an end goal….It’s vital to remember that the purpose of BI is to produce information and insight. Thus, deciding what insight your business needs is the first step to implementing BI.” - Ian Whiting, SVP Brocade Communications Vendor view: Five tips for integrating BI and ERP, CIO.com When implementing BI an organization has to have a goal in mind or an end goal. The end result is to get the right information and insight.

How Not to Invest in BI Just because you have fancy charts, graphs and dashboards doesn’t mean you have BI Tie it back to the guy from Brocade’s quote: define the insight you’re trying to obtain first, not how a dashboard must look The insight you need is the destination you’re trying to get to on the GPS and you need a map to get there Just ‘cause it looks nice, doesn’t mean it’s telling you anything meaningful about your business

And more realistically you need to implement both of these architectures to meet all the different reporting needs that your enterprise will have. With our generator compatibility we can generate this metadata and these models into those tools you see there into Oracle BI, Discoverer. Operational Data Store Analytical (BI maps) Operational Data Store Data Mart Set of Books Product Set of Books Product Order Headers Order Lines Order Lines Our Operational Data Store is based off of a Hybrid Star Schema, and our Data Marts are based off of a true star schema. SW 3/15/10 Looking a little bit more closely at the components of analytics - there’s an operational data store which is essentially a hybrid star schema or a relational dimensional schema. We bring over the transaction tables from Oracle (called the detail tables) pretty much at the same level of granularity that you see in Oracle E-Business Suite – the order lines, the invoice lines, the journal entries those are somewhat in a normalized fashion. What changes is we pull out the master dimensions what in the ODS is called the master data (customers, products, sales reps) they are identified to later become those conformed and common dimensions that will be in the data marts. We also resolve the reference tables – things like lookups and country codes. The operational data store is essentially a hybrid relational and dimension schema. Org Ship To Org Ship To
