TIMBER BRIDGE DEVELOPMENTS Julie A McMorran Civil Engineer for FCE

OUR AIM Our Objectives: To provide a civil engineering service that meets customers' requirements at minimum cost. Innovative designs through research and testing Example: Glentress SLTA “The bridge to nowhere”

OUR PAST Load Testing Analysis Test results Reused Timber deck to construct, Puggyline bridge at Fort William for the National Mountainbike Championship 2007

OUR PAST

STRESS LAMINATED TIMBER ARCH

OUR PRESENT Normal construction cost: 80% Materials 20% Labour Normal SLTA construction costs: 20% Materials 80% Labour New working at height regulations Solution: For short spans use prefabricated arch deck, deliver to site and place on abutments. Erect handrail on site. For longer spans, construct on site and lift into place. This was first used at the Royal Highland Show & APF 2006

OUR PRESENT

Modular construction We have used this for a stress laminated timber arch roof at the Royal Highland Show 2006 Modify this for Timber bridges.

OUR PRESENT

OUR FUTURE Use glued and screwed construction prefabricated in our workshop and delivered to site. Load tested to destruction!

OUR FUTURE First Glued and screwed bridge at the Royal Highland Show 2007
