The CHIK Gauzere BA & Aubry P, Path Exot Ed The Chikungunya epidemic A double impact The ShockThe Check

Take away messages As predicted, the first autochthonous transmission of the CHIK virus in the Americas has been explosive; All countries with previous history of Dengue transmission are at risk depending of entomological indices and climatological factors; Clinical Case Management and Laboratory procedures are different from Dengue, Surveillance need some fine tuning, all other Dengue strategy components are the same (IVM, Environmental management, Social Communication); However we anticipate co circulation of Dengue and CHIK; CHIK will have a double impact on health services delivery: 1. first wave of acute cases and sub acute cases and 2. chronic cases……… At the present time, the capacity of response of the countries / territories has not been surpassed.
