Welcome to the Grisham Middle School Art Program GMS

About the Teacher 11 th year teaching at Grisham, 12 years total teaching experience 2010/2011 Teacher of the Year Fine Arts Department Chair Public Relations Chair, Round Rock Art Education Association I my job and my students!

Courses of Study: Art 6 Open to all 6 th graders- No prior experience required Year-long class A “survey” course- Students will be exposed to a variety of art media (drawing and painting materials, printmaking, sculpture, clay…) Teacher will introduce “beginning” technical skills with an emphasis on expanding creativity

Courses of Study: Open to all 7 th graders- Priority placement is given for students returning from Art 6 Year-long class Increased focus/expansion on technical skills Students continue to be challenged to work creatively and find their artistic “voice” Art 7

Courses of Study: Choice of Art 8 (on-level class) or Art I (9 th grade Art class for High School credit) Art 8 continues the progression from Art 6 and Art 7; Art I continues the progression from Art 6 and Art 7 and also covers 9 th grade Art skills Priority admission into Art I given to students with prior experience in G.M.S. Art program *EXPERIENCE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED* All 8 th grade Art students work with more challenging skills and more advanced media (more sculptural projects, large canvas paintings, sewing…) PORTFOLIO PREPARATION Art 8 or Art I Click on link for sample portfolio page

Other Information:Other Information: The Art room is available after school for “Open Studio”, but there is no before/after school time commitment. Optional community service opportunities are provided throughout the year. Art competitions/shows are also optional. As with the other Fine Arts, Art students have class t-shirts, locker decorations, end-of-year trip, etc.
