Things to Remember Server Operating System licenses must be assigned to a physical server. A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate server. Licenses can only be reassigned once every 90 days. Exception to this rule: The physical server experiences permanent hardware failure and is retired. To run a Virtual Machine on a server, the physical server has to have the appropriate number of server licenses assigned. If you install virtual instances on your Windows Server, the physical instance can only be used for supporting the virtualization software (Windows Server 2008).

Why Upgrade from Windows Server 2003? Easier product installation, initial configuration, and server management –Server roles and role management no longer fragmented across multiple tools Increased protection –Operating system hardening –Policy-based management Greater flexibility –Integrated server virtualization –Centralized application access –Extensible Web solutions –Improved deployment TS Gateway allows authorized remote users to log on to terminal servers on a corporate network from anywhere Terminal Services Remote Programs – run both local and remotely-hosted programs on a Windows desktop. With TS Web Access – users can visit a Web site to access a list of available Remote Applications that can be launched with a click.
