DO WE REALLY LIVE IN SUCH A WAY THAT TRUTH IS RELATIVE? “Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened.” ~ Sir Winston Churchill

Is truth really relative in how we live? Consider areas where we demand truth: Loved Ones (no one wants lies from a spouse or child) Doctors (we want the right medicine prescribed and the right operations performed) Stock Brokers (we want them to rightly explain what they have done with our money) Courts (we want them to convict only the truly guilty)

Is truth really relative in how we live? Consider areas where we demand truth: Employers (we want them to tell us the truth and pay us fairly). Airlines (we demand truly safe planes and truly sober pilots). Reference Tools (e.g., manuals, dictionaries). Road Signs (e.g., stop signs; merge; one way). Medicine Bottles (e.g., dosage; type). Food Labels (e.g., caloric intake; fats; ingredients). Law and government (e.g, laws).

Is truth really relative in how we live? We demand truth for truth for almost every facet of life that affects our money, relationships, safety, and health.

Is truth really relative in how we live? Despite our unwavering demands for truth in those areas, many of us say we aren’t interested in truth when it comes to morality or religion. In fact, many downright reject the idea that any religion can be true or that there really is a right from wrong in moral choices.

Is truth really relative in how we live? Why do we demands truth in everything but morality and religion? Why do we we say, “That’s true for you but not for me,” when we’re talking about morality or religion, but we never even think of such nonsense when we’re talking to a stock broker about our money or a doctor about our health?

Is truth really relative in how we live? Therefore, our rejection of religious and moral truth is often on volitional grounds rather than reasonable logical grounds—WE JUST DON’T WANT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO ANY MORAL STANDARDS OR RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE.
