 Corn is a tall plant grass that has large ears with many seeds or kernels. These seeds grow in rows on the larger ears and are eaten as a vegetable. Corn is grown as food for both people and animals.  Harder - Corn, also called maize, is a cereal grass related to wheat, rice, oats, and barley. It is a plant whose food value and wide variety of uses make it the most important crop grown in the United States and one of the most important in the world. In order of world grain production, corn ranks second after wheat and is followed by third-ranking rice.

 No other material is quite like cotton. It is the most important of all natural fibres, accounting for half of all the fibres used by the world's textile industry. Cotton has many qualities that make it the best choice for countless uses: Cotton fibres have a natural twist that makes them so suitable for spinning into a very strong yarn. The ability of water to penetrate right to the core of the fibre makes it easy to remove dirt from the cotton garments, and creases are easily removed by ironing. Cotton fabric is soft and comfortable to wear close to skin because of its good moisture absorption qualities. Charges of static electricity do not build up readily on the clothes.

 Over 80 percent of mankind's diet is provided by the seeds of less than a dozen plant species." (26F, pg 2) Over the years man has invented new machines and techniques to increase the amount and variety of crop production. The following will be an overview of the history of farming. We will examine the major historical cultures, the development of the tractor, and the major types of agriculture practiced today.
