Fighting for Control

 Alliance- formal agreement among groups or individuals  Delegate-representative  Parliament-law-making branch of the British government  Proclamation-pubic announcement  Budget- plan for spending money

 What is the Ohio Valley?  This region stretches along the Ohio River from the Applachians to the Mississippi River.  What caused the British and French to compete for the Ohio Valley?  They both wanted land in the Ohio Valley.

 What risks or benefits might there be for Native Americans who formed alliances with the French or British?  They risked losing their lives and land but faced the benefit of gaining goods and land if their ally won the war.  What became known as the Albany plan?  Benjamin Franklin’s idea of uniting the colonies against France.

 Why did the war turn in Britain’s favor?  The British captured Fort Duquesne and defeated the French at Quebec and Montreal.  In which two British colonial regions did most of the fighting take place, New England, Middle or Southern colonies?  New England and Middle  What was the Treaty of Paris?  It gave Britain most of Canada, all French lands east of the Mississippi River and Spanish Florida.  What was the effect of the Treaty of Paris?  It ended the French and Indian War.

 What did the Proclamation of 1763 state?  All lands west of the Appalachian Mountains belonged to the Native Americans  Why did Parliament pass new taxes on the colonists?  They needs more money to pay off the cost of war.  What was the Sugar Act?  Taxed the sugar and molasses brought into the colonies from the West Indies.
