Body Paragraphs in detail Although Asian Americans have been treated unfairly throughout history, you’d be surprised as the severity of this mistreatment throughout Pacific Northwest history. For example, did you know that at one point Asian Americans, primarily Chinese, were simply rounded up and expelled from cities such as Tacoma and Seattle. According to Alfred Owen, a renowned Washington State historian, in 1885, “All people of Asian decent were rounded up and expelled from the city of Tacoma” (Owen, 45). It may be hard to believe but this actually happened. They were ripped from their homes, all of their possessions looted, and they were expelled from the city of Tacoma. This happened in Seattle the following year, but Caucasian citizens were less successful because they ran out of boats to load Asian Americans on. To this day, Tacoma doesn’t have a significant Asian population, and Seattle does specifically because of this history.
