The Water Cycle

How much do you remember about the water cycle? It is certain that you have learned knowledge about water cycle in the elementary school. But how much do you still remember? Before we review it, please try to recall it and share what you know with a partner.

Let’s Begin Water is made up of very small particles. A little drop of water has a life cycle with four major stages. Here is how it goes:

Some of the liquid water on the earth’s surface turns into invisible moisture in the air. If the air is warm, it will rise, taking the moisture with it. This is called… A. evaporation: the vapor rises 水珠蒸發為水蒸氣

As the air rises, it cools off. The cooling causes invisible moisture to turn into tiny liquid drops. These drops form clouds. B. condensation: the cloud forms 蒸氣凝結為水,形成雲 This is called…

As drops join together, some become too heavy to float in the air. They fall to the ground. Water falls from clouds as snow or rain. C. precipitation: the rain falls 水氣凝結為雨雲而降落 This is called…

Snow and rain collect on earth in oceans, lakes, rivers, wetlands and other places. Some soaks into the ground. D. collection: water is collected 雨水被儲存在大海、湖泊、河流及地下 This is called…

Water the Magician In different stages, water has different forms and different names. Now look at the picture in the following page and guess what water is called in different stages:

A. B. C. D. cloud rain, snow rivers, oceans, seas water vapors

Writing Exercise Now, pretend that you’re a little water drop that lives with millions of brothers and sisters in the ocean happily. One day, you wake up finding yourself floating in the air and flying higher and higher. You are going to experience a special journey. After you return to the Earth, tell us what happen to you in your trip.
