Ante- and postnatal screening Antenatal care

Learning Outcomes A variety of techniques can be used to monitor the health of the mother and developing foetus Antenatal screening identifies the risk of a disorder so that further tests and a prenatal diagnosis can be offered. Antenatal care involves blood pressure, blood type and general health checks (including routine blood and urine tests)

Monitoring A variety of techniques can be used to monitor the health of the mother and foetus Antenatal screening identifies the risk of a disorder or chromosomal abnormality so that further tests and a prenatal diagnosis can be offered if necessary Antenatal care, as far as the mother is concerned, involves blood pressure, blood type and general health checks (including routine blood and urine tests)

Antenatal care includes Ultrasound imaging 2. Biochemical tests 3. Diagnostic testing 4. Rhesus antibody testing
