MAOA AND RYHA The 2 and 10’s and Standard of Play

AGENDA  Who we are  Review of the 2 and 10’s: Boarding, Head Contact, Check from Behind, Charging  Standard of Play video shown to officials  The introduction of online modules last year for officials  Your turn, what are you seeing?  Any thing else?

Who are we?  Matt Katlen: Scheduler for MAOA, Seminar Instructor  Paul Kelcey: President of MAOA, Seminar Instructor  MAOA: MAOA's core goal of training and preparing new officials as well as guiding existing officials to constantly improve.

The 2 and 10 penalties  For the seasons these rules were all changed from minor, major, match options to 2 and 10 or 5 and game penalties:  Boarding  Charging  Head Contact Please note that Check from Behind has always been either a 2 and 10 or a 5 and game penalty. Avoidable contact with the goalie in the privilege area is considered charging

So what makes the difference:  SO what makes it a 2 and 10 or a 5 and game:  Injury  Injury potential  What was the point of emphasis of the hit  Was it a hockey play or a play of intimatation  Does an official have any other options?  Boarding, charging, check from behind, head contact video that is shown to all officials(7:52)   Standard of Play video that is shown to all officials(13:50) 

Online Modules for Officials  Starting last season online modules were introduced for officials  Intended to increase consistency throughout USA Hockey  More time seeing plays and how that call may or may not happen  How better position allows for better calls

Your turn: What are you seeing?  But first: Please no war stories!  With that what questions do you have on this or another rule?  Anything you are seeing that would like to be a point of emphasis?

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU…..
