Presentation transcript:

 Dictionary: a piece of written work that tells a story and is meant to be performed; this is called a play  An event that has exciting, emotional and/or interesting outcomes; to be dramatic  A type of art Drama = to do

 A space where plays (written dramas) are preformed; › Can be a building or just an open space  The process of acting on stage Theatre = action that is seen

In order to have theatre you need three things: 1. Actors : people to perform the story 2. Audience : people to watch the performance 3. Stage : a place to perform Everything else helps to make the performance more interesting to watch and easier to understand

the written work that people use to perform a play › Tells the actors what to say ( dialogue ) and how to move, as well as different things about the characters and setting in the story They are broken into scenes (like chapters of a book) Script:

the clothing that actors wear when performing as a character; SShows something about who the character is Costume:

Props : (short for properties) different items that actors carry or use on stage › helps the actors to show the story or their characters more clearly Using props onstage and making it look real takes practice!!!

different things put on the stage to help create the proper setting for the play; Set: This helps both the actors and the audience “believe” the story being shown

lights can be used to help change the mood of the action or to help show the setting of the story; Lighting: Lighting can also be used to help show the beginning and ending of the action

Sound : can be broken into two major parts  Music : helps to express the emotion of the scene  Sound Effects: can be used as part of the background of the set (bird sounds, etc) or to express actions that happen on the stage (door closing, gun shots, etc)
