Implementation and Evaluation of the new Learning and Development Pathways for RCN Representatives
Purpose of the Future Activist Programme u To develop a UK-wide framework which will facilitate consistency in representatives’ learning and development across the four countries. u Each pathway (steward, safety rep and learning rep) will be based upon the agreed RCN role descriptors and the appropriate ENTO standards which will be mapped to the role descriptors.

Pathway overview (1) u three modules: –Module 1: Foundation (5 days) –Module 2: Development (5 days) –Module 3: Advanced workshops / masterclasses for experienced reps.
Pathway Overview (2) u 1. Becoming active –Self assessment against the generic and specialist parts of the RCN role descriptor –Personal development planning with support u 2. Developing as an active learner –Skills development based upon the core knowledge required to be an RCN Representative u 3. Being active –Identifying and progressing work based issues –Supported work based learning u 4. Staying active –Ongoing support and development following the principles of life long learning –Completion and ‘signing off’ of an evidence based portfolio that demonstrates competence against agreed standards

Evaluation – where are we? u The new pathways were implemented in England in April u New evaluation forms were developed to capture the representatives experience as well as the facilitators experience of running a new programme. u The first evaluation report will be ready by August and a paper submitted to UKCRLD in September/October. Evaluation Framework u Input evaluation – the assessment of materials, content and delivery of the programme u Outcome evaluation – measure of the learning outcomes of the programme for the reps u Impact evaluation – assessing the impact of the learning and development in practise over time. u The first two points are short to medium term measures but the third will be a longer term measure.
