So you want to be… a government lawyer David Johnston

What is the GLSS? Made up of legally qualified civil servants Lawyers provide advice to the Scottish Government on various topics 2 main work areas: advisory and legislative work, and litigation services But some lawyers work in policy roles or go out on secondment to other organisations (such as the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland) Most GLSS lawyers retain Practising Certificates and some exercise rights of audience before the Courts

My career path Studied at Universities of Glasgow and Melbourne 1 year working for RBS Returned to study for the Diploma GLSS Traineeship Qualified in 2008 Worked in the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland from 2006 – – joined Scottish Government Criminal Justice team.
