2:5-8 Pray for Others

“ For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” 1 Timothy 2:5

Paul is focusing on the work of Salvation. In focusing on the work he explains the means. God= Holy, Spirit, Righteous Man= Sinful, Flesh, Imperfect

32 "He is not a man like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. 33 If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, JOB 9:32, 33

Mediator- someone who intervenes between two parties to resolve a conflict or ratify a covenant.

The mediator was Christ 1.He ratified a covenant 2.He imputed His Righteousness 3.He gave us the Way of Holiness

“The man, Christ Jesus” Oneness Theology’s foundational principles in Christology. Christology-field of study within Christian theology which is primarily concerned with the nature and person of Jesus Christ.

1)Jesus was not pre-existent prior to the incarnation. (Heb. 10:5) 2)The role of “the Son” will have an end. (1 Corinthians 15:25) 3)Fullness of God was in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

6 “Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” 1 Timothy 2:6

Christ was “ransom” (payment) for us: 1)He took our punishment for our sins 2)He purchased us as slaves as our kinsman-redeemer.

“If a foreigner residing among you becomes rich and any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to the foreigner or to a member of the foreigner’s clan, they retain the right of redemption after they have sold themselves. One of their relatives may redeem them” Lev. 25:47, 48

20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. ROMANS 6:20 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory ROMANS 8:20

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 1 TIMOTHY 2:7

Paul’s Calling: 1)A Preacher 2)An Apostle 3)Teacher of the Gentiles Paul validated his message with his calling.

“ 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” 1 Timothy 2:8

The Greek word for men is referring to literal “males”. 1)Holy Hands (means purity, Psalm 24:4). 2)Dissention, doubt- Half-spirited or committed. Men are to be Holy and faithful!
